Japanese linguistic trivia. Interesting etymologies, history and word play, covering vocabulary, grammar, kanji and pronunciation. It’s not a Japanese learning blog, but just a collection of things I’ve found interesting in the course of my studies. Some knowledge of Japanese is required, but I hope it’s still accessible enough for the beginner.

Living in Japan for about 10 years. Spent inordinately long learning a language that doesn’t really pay back the time put in in material terms, but is still pretty interesting nonetheless. Very little formal training in Japanese, but most of the interesting stuff isn’t taught in those lessons anyway.
