New Blog: Resident Alien

I’m an EFL teacher/parent/occasional translator (Japanese to English) whose children were raised and partly educated in Japan.  Having lived, studied, and worked in Japan for 17 years, I still enjoy reading and speaking Japanese, and my children strongly identify with Japan. I blog a lot about life in Japan, Japanese customs, the Nihongo Noryoku Shiken (I passed level 1 over 20 years ago), Japanese people I have known, stereotypes about the Japanese (and other Asians) and teaching in Japan.

About this Japan blogger

Mary Whitsell was born and raised in California, but has spent most of her life teaching and working in other countries, including Japan, the Netherlands, the U.K., and North Cyprus. Every member of her family was born in a different country.
