New Blog: The ExPat Returneth

The ExPat Returneth (A Place to Express What You Miss About Living Abroad) was born from the reverse culture shock and homesickness that my family and I felt after moving back to the United States from Japan.  Although some readers have lived in other countries, my experience is about what I miss about living in Japan. I also share the Japanese recipes I cook at home. Some posts are about cultural experiences, others about food, and some guest posts cover the lament many returned expats feel about missing their time in Japan.

About this Japan blogger

Larissa has lived in Yokohama, Kameoka (Kyoto), and most recently, Nagoya, Japan. Most of her daughters’ conversations start with “remember when we lived in Japan and …” They fondly remember that Saturdays did not include trips to Home Depot, but when you did go to the hardware store, they had pets.
One of those “writer moms,” Larissa’s newest Cherry Tucker Mystery, PORTRAIT OF A DEAD GUY, will be released August 28, 2012. She lives in Georgia with her husband, young daughters, and Biscuit, a Cairn Terror (terrier). Check her website at larissareinhart.com.
You can find Larissa on Twitter @RisWrites, Pinterest at Larissa Reinhart and on her Facebook page.

New Blog: JUST BENTO

Just Bento is dedicated to the subject of healthy, simple bento lunches, some traditionally Japanese, some not so traditional. The focus is on bentos for health and weight-conscious adults, but many of the recipes and methods are applicable to bentos for all ages. The site was established in October 2007, and has rapidly grown to be one of the top destinations for people interested in bentos or obentos (お弁当)in English.

About the author of this Japan blog

Just Bento is owned and published by me, Makiko Itoh. I am a Japanese woman, born in Tokyo, and currently dividing my time between Japan, Switzerland and southern France…which sounds way more glamorous than it is (I have family in Japan, my husband’s Swiss, and we recently bought a really run down house in France that has all the signs of turning into a money pit ^_^;) That’s me in the photo on the left at age 3, absorbed in a cookbook no doubt. Besides Japan, France and Switzerland, I’ve also lived in the UK and the US for extended periods. While I’m passionate about promoting Japanese cooking and culture, I’m also interested in plain, simple, delicious and easy to prepare food.
